This class has really put a new perspective on my thoughts about technology that I thought I would never change over the years. I have come to realize that promoting yourself through the web and creating a PWP or a LinkedIn page is truly beneficial to networking purposes. One thing that professor Sailor said through this class was create a website that speaks for you and don't let anyone create an opinion for you. That comment stood out to me because that's exactly what we are doing and we have the opportunity to make a lasting impression. I feel these items create that portrayal. The Con is simply that not everyone believes what they see over the internet or sometimes just because you see the words and the education you still can't get a true feel for the person. Obviously you would only put things that you want people to know and I think that everyone is aware of that. Another con would be what if the employers aren't connected to the technology world at all. Would they even be aware of anything that was presented over the web? On the positive side of things you have to think about the opportunity that while your not actually interviewing for a job your resume and portfolio is still being viewed by people. This makes this a huge plus in the world todat with so many competitive edges are needed.
There has to be something in place that will allow you to rub elbows with other professionals and speak your resume into the atmosphere. I had the opportunity to meet a millionaire who started from the ground up and earned his millions. I asked him what advice would you give someone who wants to be a millionaire like you. He told me to surround yourself with people you want to be like. Listen to them talk and learn how they think. Ultimately you have to become them before you can actually become them. I believe in getting in organizations with other professionals that you have a passion for anf it will rub off on you and you will also be able to meet those people in your profession. I think your resume is a great but ultimately you sell yourself and people buy you based on how you sell yourself.
The two sites in my opinion serve the same person and that is to display your resume. Facebook is more of a fun and friendly resume. While Linkedin is a more prestige looking resume. The two ultimately get the same point across and let people know what you are doing now and the success you have had doing it. There is a difference on how that information is dispalyed on the two different sites. Facebook is a fun, social kind of group, while Linkedin makes you feel like you need to dress up and take a real picture that displays you in a professional atmosphere. Even though employers look at both Linkedin seems to be a great place to put your resume.
I feel like I am so old when it comes to some of this new technology and so much seems so pointless. So I began to look at it from a different opportunity and view of a player trying to get better results are an edge on other athletes if possible. I researched the Jawbone UP24 and at first glance I thought this is clearly a waste of my money. As I began to read the reviews and different things about this product it occurred to me that this is just another example of athletes being able to monitor the very things that we as coaches are constantly preaching to them about. Get sleep, eat right, work out, exercise and more exercise. this monitors all of that in different ways. Great pros for this technology. the cons on this is simply there are cheaper ways to monitor the very thing we are paying so much for in this technology wearable.
My initial thought of all the apps to search was this a quite a few apps. This is almost overwhelming in a good way. It reminds me of the red box in a weird way. A lot of movies I will never rent or do I have any desire to rent. Well the many apps seems top have that same impression on me as well. However there are a few apps I could really utilize and I find myself using more than i originally intended. The flashlight app is one i thought I'd never use but its amazing how handy it really is when you don't have a flashlight but you have your phone. Another app that has really intrigued me is shazam. I can hit the button and it will recognize any song that is currently playing. This app happens to be one of my favorite because I don't always know who sings that song. These are great apps that can only be great on your phone, I can't imagine using the flashlight app on my laptop. There are still a few apps I can't ever see myself really using like snap chat for instances. Why not send me a picture text? If I'm worrying about you keeping the pic then I probably shouldn't snap it.
The app I would like to create would be something that would not only be beneficial to me but other coaches as well. As I was thinking aboput the different things and apps and there seems to be something already there for everything. Well I came up with the "Shot Tracker". This app is clearly designed for the players and coaches to keep track of their daily shooting. It would count how many shots you put up and record the makes. For instance if you shoot 20 and make 14 the shot tracker would keep a daily total of your shots and keep track so you could monitor any progress being made by the athlete or non progress. Obviously the player would ultimately be responsible for getting in the gym and getting shots up. But this way coaches could see who has been practicing over the off season, before games etc. This also allows the player to have a portfolio and numbers to improve on. I think it could also break down percentages as well. The shot Tracker coming to a store near you.
I am quickly learning there are so many different tools and ways of learning on the internet. There use to be one of my favorite commercials that talked about how there is not a wrong way to eat a Reese's peanut butter cup. Web 2.0 reminds me of that very commercials with the many tools and different ways technology has transformed from many years ago to today. It's even more amazing to see the numbers that have propelled from the 70's to today's generation. I had never heard of Web 2.0 until this assignment and it has shed light on the subject. In 1989 University of Phoenix had 12 students enrolled, As of today there are over 500,000 students enrolled. That number alone shows how quickly technology has progressed over the years and the impact that it has made in the world. Look how many students can be reached now with this new technology and in the next 10 years that number could double possible even triple.
